NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX ... Facebook?

As Facebook continues to grow its user base worldwide, entertainment companies are increasingly trying to find ways to use the platform as a new form of TV channel with unprecedented reach. Both major TV networks and Hollywood film studios have previously allowed people to watch their content via their Facebook pages, including paid video trials such as Warner Brothers renting its "Dark Knight" film from its ultra-successful "Batman" franchise for Facebook credits.
Unfortunately, for WB and others, no early tests of traditional companies pushing their content on Facebook have registered any real success. Network World — IT budgets and responsibilities are moving out of the control of IT departments and into the hands of others, thanks to trends such as consumerization and cloud computing, Gartner says in its vision for 2012 and the coming years.

Intuit Inc., a provider of technology and finance software, is leveraging its appeal to small and midsize businesses with a campaign that pays bloggers for writing positive reviews of the company's “Love a Local Business” campaign.
“Love a Local Business” promotes such Intuit products as QuickBooks, Quicken and TurboTax to small businesses, and provides hiring grants ranging from $500 to $25,000. Businesses nominated by their fans then solicit votes on various social sites to vie for the funding.... Read more.

U.K. Government Investigating Groupon Ad Practices

Groupon, the largest Internet daily-deal site, is being investigated by Britain's competition regulator over concerns including unfair promotions and exaggerated savings.
The U.K. Office of Fair Trading has been looking into Groupon's British unit since July and expanded the probe after receiving a complaint from the country's advertising watchdog.
"Given Groupon's track record, we have serious concerns about its ability to adhere to the advertising code," the Advertising Standards Authority said in a statement. "It is in the public interest that we refer the matter to the OFT.".... Read more.
